Due to the expansion of human populations and their needs, we are reducing the surface with good soils and agriculture and forestry, are moving into marginal soils, it is necessary to evaluate the response of plants in these conditions, Therefore, the objective of this research was to determine the
degree of adaptation and growth rate initial six forest species. The study was conducted in the municipality of Santiago Yaveo, Oaxaca, located between the coordinates 17 º 19 ' and 17 º 26' LN and between 95 ° 23 ' and 95 ° 35' W, with elevations between 100 and 300 msnm, in Aw1 climate. The design used was randomized complete block with six treatments (species) and three replications. The species evaluated were: (Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden), (Gmelina arborea Roxb), (Tectona grandis LF), (Acacia mangium Will), (Cedrela mexicana L.) and (Swietenia macrophylla King). At distances of 3 m x 3 m. In the month of June, were transplanted 16 plants of each species, eight as useful plot fertilized at 45 days after transplantion, with 80 g plant-1 of 12-24-12 formula. The variables studied were, stem diameter and plant height, every month for six months. The data were processed through the technique of analysis of variance and mean comparisons were performed by the Tukey method to 0.5%, with Experimental Designs Small Rum Res package version 3.0 (Olivares, 1993). Graphs were constructed temperature and precipitation associated with the growth in heigth and diameter of the studied species. To determine the growth rate curves were used and linear regression analysis, for heigth and diameter according to time. The fastest growing species were, for heigth (Acacia mangium Will) and diameter (Gmelina arborea Roxb), with 21.98 cm month-1 and 0.76 cm month-1, respectively.
