Abstract

The Stenostomum aromaticum tree is known by locals as Chicahuastle. It is a species with a very restricted geographic distribution and where herbarium records and field samples place it as endemic to Mexico. From recent counts, it is known that the number of specimens of this tree is around 500 individuals between juveniles and adults. Despite these critical data for the species, it is not found in the Official Mexican Standard - SEMARNAT - 2010, but it is on the red list of endangered plants of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Therefore, the objective of these notes was to provide more knowledge about the biology and ecology of this species and about its asexual reproduction as a conservation strategy for the rapid propagation of individuals.
