Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine degree of drought tolerance of ten intermediate soybean genotypes under drought-irrigation scheme. The experiment was carried out in Las Huastecas Experimental Station of INIFAP, Altamira, Tamaulipas, during fall-winter 2012-2013 cycle. Two varieties and eight advanced lines of soybean were evaluated. In order to characterize drought tolerance were calculated the índices: stress susceptibility index (SSI), stress tolerance index (STI), yield index (YI), yield stability index (YSI), geometric mean productivity (GMP), stress tolerance (TOL) and mean productivity (MP). There were significant differences in TOL and MP only. Based on TOL, H98-1021 lost less yield on drought. About MP, H02-1656 was best. Considering frequency which a genotype was in the 30 % highest values group in each index, H98-1240 excelled in six of the seven indices. The most efficient indices for characterization were ISS, GMP, TOL, STI and YSI, which are proposed to be used in combination in order to accurate the characterization of drouht tolerance in soybean genotypes.
