Regional distribution was met and estimated the population density (PD) of red brocket deer (Mazama temama: Kerr, 1792) in Sierra Negra in the state of Puebla, Mexico. The distribution of cervid in the region covers an area of 27.303,02 has. with vegetative types of cloud forest and tropical rain forest in four municipalities at an altitude between 150 and1650 meters, being the core area the Tzintzintépetl volcano (3250 meters). The PD was estimated between 5, 5 and 4,2 individuals / km2, which is similar to the PD obtained in other regions of Mexico, and this animal is sympatric in the region with the white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus: Zimmermann, 1780). We conclude that the deer is in a state of fragility in the Sierra Negra, so we recommend creating a protected area (PA) in the volcano Tzintzintépetl, continue studies of PD at the other areas of the sierra, with the aim of creating a System of Units for the Management and Wildlife Conservation or SUMA, oriented nature tourism.
