Position Effect of cuttings on yield of Cassava root (Manihot esculenta Crantz) in Veracruz

Abstract

In Cotaxtla Experiment Station, from INIFAP, since June 6, 2012 the experiment was established and MMEXV3 genotype was used. Three cutting positions were tested: T1= horizontal, T2= inclined upwards and T3=vertical, at randomize complete block design with three replications. Experimental plot was five rows of 5 m length and row and plant distances of one meter each. Thirty total plants by treatment and replication. Plant height (m), tall diameter (mm), total and commercial roots number, and total yield (t·ha-1) were measured. At 177 days after planting, cutting sowed at incline position had the higher plant height (2.7 m) and horizontal cuttings only reached 2.6 m. Total and commercial roots number was not affected by cutting position. Although total yield did not have statistical difference, cutting sowed incline was numerically superior (1.7 t·ha-1) to horizontal position.
