The aim of this work was to determine the productive and reproductive development of Holstein and Holstein x Jersey cows during the first lactation in two commercial establishments. Retrospective records corresponding to lactation of 3,399 Holstein primiparous cows and 1,756 Holstein x Jersey primiparous cows collected between the years 1999-2016 in two commercial establishments belonging to the same company, located in the town of Villa Elisa, Colón department, Entre Ríos province, Argentina were used. Principal component analysis explained 78% of the total variability of the data. CP1 = 0.9605745 lactation days + 0.6480341 + milk index + 0.9647039 birth-conception interval + 0.9557397 birth-delivery interval + 0.8446656 number of services. A multiple linear regression model was fitted to explain the total liters as a function of liters per day, dry cow days, age at first calving and the principal component, showing that the estimated Line for Holstein was Y= 947 .49 + 296.73 liters per day – 9.95 dry days + 1.38 age at first calving + 1188.78 principal component and the estimated line for the Holstein x Jersey was Y= 1797.47 + 271.89 liters per day – 9.95 dry days + 1.05 age at first calving + 1162.12 principal component. It is concluded that, in milk production systems such as the one studied, the groups of Holstein x Jersey presented better reproductive results, however these results disagree with the productive ones, although similar to those of efficiency evaluated through the milk index.
