Abstract

The production of bovine embryos has increased exponentially in recent years. The number of pregnancies depends on multiple factors, with the reproductive management of the recipients being one of the most important. The objective was to evaluate the reproductive performance of F1 Zebu x European Swiss cows used only as recipients in an embryo transfer program. The study was carried out in a livestock production unit (UPP) in the municipality of Tamiahua, Veracruz. The research was retrospective (April 2009 -November 2023) and information from 116 recipients was used. The embryos and oocytes were collected from the Brahman donors of the UPP and the embryos were produced in vitro by the ABS company in Torreon, Coahuila. The statistical analysis was performed using the STATISTICA 7 program. The first birth was at 42.2±9.1 months of age. Subsequently, the recipients had similar reproductive parameters (P>0.05) in the different calving with a mean of 1.58±0.80 number of services per conception (NSPC), 193.3±122.5 days open (DA) and 16.0±5.4 months calving interval (IEP) with a total of 4.0 ±1.6 births and a stay in the UPP of 7.9. ±1.9 years. The percentage of culling rates increased significantly (P<0.05) in recipients with 4 and 5 births (46.2%) compared to those with three or fewer births (6.2%). In conclusion, the reproductive performance of bovine females used solely as recipients in an embryo transfer program in the warm-subhumid tropics was satisfactory and they had an average of 4.0±1.6 births during 7.9. ±1.9 years. The culling percentage of recipients with more than 4 and 5 births increased significantly compared to those with three or fewer births.
