Abstract

The porpuse of this work was to evaluate the performance of racial cross 7/8 Holstein X1 / 8 Zebu (n = 112), 7/8 American Swiss X 1/8 Zebu (n = 138) and 7/8 Simmental X1 / 8 Zebu (n = 191) on milk production and growth of calves. The data analyzed were obtained from 341 cows from three dual-purpose herds in North Puebla, Mexico. The variables studied included the production of milk per

lactation (PTL), time of onset of lactation (EIL), days to peak lactation (PL) behavior of calves to weaning (CBD) and economic productivity. The results indicated that the production of milk per lactation and days in milk were affected by genotype (P <.01). The production variables for behavior until weaning of offspring of cows 7/8 x European dairy eighth double purpose included Cebu, birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), average daily gain (ADG) and weaning age (ED), were evaluated by survival analysis. The results indicated that the racial group did not influence (P> .01) in any of the production characteristics studied. In conclusion, cows 7/8 Holstein x 1/8 Zebu (HC) and 7/8 American Swiss x 1/8 Zebu (SC) showed higher productive ability that cows with Simmental genes. The observed results suggest the possibility of using racial HC and SAC, as the most appropriate for the production of milk in the north of Puebla.
