In the Natural Protected Area (NPA) "Sierra de Otontepec" there are some ecosystems and land uses, such as Mesophilic Forest (BM), Natural Pastures (PN), Traditional Milpa (MT) and Citrus Orchard (HC), which offer several environmental services (ES), including soil Carbon fixation. Unfortunately, there is no basic information about the amount of Organic Carbon (CO) that exists in them. To achieve the objective, soils under BM, PN, MT and HC were sampled, with four repetitions, and five depths (0-10, 10-20, 20-40, 40-60 and 60-100 cm, respectively). In them, the percentage (%) of CO was determined by the Walkley & Black method, and the Apparent Density (DA) (gr/cm3) by the test tube method. Also, the Statistica© Software V.10.0 was used to perform the statistical analysis. Results indicated, that BM registered the highest percentages of CO and presented a statistically significant difference (P<0.05) at different depths compared to other land uses. Additionally, HC recorded the highest DA (gr/cm3) in contrast with the other land uses. Also, regarding the content of CO (Mg Ha1) in the entire profile analyzed (0 - 100 cm), BM showed statistically significant difference (P <0.05) with respect to the other land uses. Finally, it is concluded that the soils where BM exists have a greater amount of CO. Information, that can encourage the creation of a local ES payment scheme.
