Abstract

The program of the career of the Faculty of Engineering in Agricultural Production Systems (FISPA) is based on the acquisition of competences. One of the teaching-learning strategies used is situated learning. It is a type of methodology used by teachers so that students face real situations, or close to their professional fields. The educational project was carried out during the period February - July 2022, back to school after the Covid-19 pandemic, in the demonstrative agricultural module (section 1) of FISPA. The project consisted of the establishment and agronomic-phytosanitary management of the Jubilee variety watermelon crop, by 32 students of the Educational Experiences of Phytopathology Fundamentals and Phytosanitary. As a result, 84.3% of the students acquired skills in the identification and diagnosis of fungal diseases (early and late blight). 87.5% of the students learned to establish a crop from the conditioning of the land, sowing the seed, transplanting the plant, and establishing irrigation based on the needs of the crop. It is concluded that situated learning favors the achievement of significant learning that takes the FISPA students from theoretical to practical knowledge, creating an environment of leadership, collaborative work and learning that favors the acquisition of skills that will allow students to face and solve similar problems in their professional field.
