This article addresses the importance and ways to implement, incorporate and evaluate environmental education in the formal curriculum of educational institutions in Mexico. It starts with the analysis of the historical background from the international, national and institutional levels. The essential concepts and methods are studied to establish an implementation and evaluation model that is strengthened with documentary analysis and the social perception of the educational community. In the environmental education proposal, the social and pedagogical support is materialized through teacher training, updating of curricula, contents and learning sequences. It is argued that the implementation and evaluation of environmental education in educational institutions in Mexico should be permanent, sequential and intergenerational. It is concluded that the implementation and incorporation of the evaluation of environmental education in the different institutions of Mexico has organizational limitations, since, in contrast to the areas of socio-educational opportunity, the environmental culture does not include all the normative and ethical aspects of Mexican society.
