Abstract

In Mexico, the main producer of pecan walnut (Carya illinoinensis (Wangeh) K. Koch) is the state of Chihuahua, representing 61.0% of the national surface. By 2020, the walnut area in Irrigation District 05 was 29,114 ha, with an average yield of 1.91 tons per ha (SIAP, 2020). To achieve adequate performance of walnut, it is important that the essential nutrients that the tree requires are provided, which is why it is necessary to know the characterization of the physical and chemical properties. Walnut plantations in Irrigation District 05 continue to increase without taking into account the characteristics of the soil suitable for the development of the tree, being managed in a similar way throughout the region. The population under study was represented by producers from the municipalities of Delicias, Saucillo, Meoqui, Rosales and Julimes. The information was obtained from the soil analyzes carried out during the year 2018 to May 2021 at the Faculty of Agricultural and Forest Sciences. The physical chemical properties of the soils of the orchards were characterized, the results found indicate that most of the soils present low concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus, zinc, iron and copper, likewise; only 14% of the soils have a pH of 6.7 to 7.3, the rest of the soils have a slightly alkaline pH upwards.
