This work aims to provide technical tools to producers and technical assistants, with the purpose of improving the greenhouse melon production process as the species of importance under this system in the state of Veracruz and nationally. The primary center is considered to be in the Sudano-Sahelian area due to the presence of wild types of Cucumis melo, while Asia, from the Mediterranean to Japan, forms part as a secondary center of diversification. In America it was introduced from 1516 in the Central American region, while in North America after 1600 (Bisognin, 2002; Krístková et al., 2003; Lemus and Hernández, 2003; El Tahir and Taha, 2004). Within the cucurbitaceae family, it occupies the third place in importance due to the planted area it occupies. It is also of great importance due to the high demand for labor. Other uses attributed to it are medicinal properties such as diuretic, food, demulcent, vomiting and purgative (root) (Plants for a future, 2008). The harvest is understood to be beneficial in terms of the average yield of 3 melons per plant, although it usually varies from 3 to 5 in traditional varieties -with larger fruit- and from 5 to 8 melons for varieties with smaller fruit.
