Use of Bio4suelo®, as an alternative for the management of root diseases in Chile habanero, as a teaching and learning strategy for university students

From September 14 to December 15, 2023, the educational project “Use of Bio4suelo® as an innovative alternative for the management of root diseases in the habanero chile crop” was carried out at the School of Engineering in Agricultural Production Systems (FISPA), in Acayucan, Veracruz. Mexico. The experiment consisted of comparing two types of agronomic management (conventional and agroecological) by testing the latest generation product Bio4suelo®, which is a compound of mycorrhizal fungi of the Glomus genus and antagonists such as Trichoderma harzianum and T. koninngi, combined with bacteria of the Paenibacillus polymyxa and Bacillus thuringiensis species, which allow better root development and high tolerance to root diseases. The objective of the project was to improve the soil health conditions of the agricultural module through the use of the soil improver and its evaluation through the development of habanero bell pepper plants. The particular objectives of the participating educational experiences were the acquisition of new knowledge about agricultural production systems and the integration of the students. The methodology consisted of establishing the experiment in the field and assigning activities for crop management. The result was the improvement of soil health through the use of Bio4suelo®, and the participation and training of 67 students in the Soil Science, Introductory and Advanced Soil Science and Agricultural Production Experiences and General Botany.
